Saving from Facebook
How to save Facebook posts so you can find them later
Share the post, reel or video to Recalo. It reads the caption, what's said in the video, the comments, and the text in each photo and what it shows, then saves what's in it: a recipe with its ingredients and steps, a restaurant or place, a book, a movie, or a note. Later, ask for it in your own words, in the app or from ChatGPT, Claude or Muse.
What you need
- Recalo on your iPhone or iPad. A free app that keeps what you save from other apps in one organized, searchable place. Download here. On Android or a computer, use the web app.
- The Facebook app. Nothing to connect.
- Optional: ChatGPT, Claude or Muse, to ask for your saves from there.
Save a post in three steps
Works for posts, reels, videos, photos and group posts, including fb.watch and share links.
-
Tap Share on the post.
Recalo shows up in your iPhone's share menu like any other app.
-
Choose Recalo and tap send.
Don't see Recalo? Scroll the row of apps to the end, tap More, and switch it on. On Android or a computer, copy the post's link and paste it into the Recalo web app.
-
Recalo reads the whole post.
The caption, what's said in the video, the comments, and the text in each photo and what it shows. So a reel with no caption still saves.
What each kind of post becomes
A recipe from a cooking group is saved in full
Group members often post a family recipe as plain text, or a video with the amounts said aloud. Either way the ingredients and steps are saved. Plan it for Sunday and cook it in Cook mode.
A friend's post about a restaurant is saved as a place
A post about a new ramen spot is saved as a place. From there you can call ahead or pull it up in Apple or Google Maps.
A neighborhood group's recommendations become a note
A "best brunch near me?" post in a local group can collect dozens of answers. Recalo reads the post and its comments and gathers the spots people name into one note, with a link to each one's website or Maps listing.
Reels save even without a caption
Recalo takes in the caption, the spoken words and the comments, so an uncaptioned reel still comes through.
A post about an event keeps what it says
A group post about a street fair or a farmers market becomes a note holding what the post says about when and where. Ask Recalo to put it on a checklist with the date. An event page itself saves as a link.
A post about a book lands with your books
It's filed with your other books, cover included.
More on the same topic goes where it belongs
Have a note for your kitchen remodel? Share a group post about cabinet paint, and Recalo offers a choice: "Add it to Kitchen remodel" or "Save it on its own". A to-do joins the checklist it fits, not a new one.
Facebook's Saved, and where it stops
Facebook's Save is in a post's options menu, and everything you save lands in Saved. You can sort saves into collections and share a collection with friends. Save works on links, videos, events, photos and reels too, and a saved Marketplace listing goes to your Marketplace collections.
But Facebook's help pages don't document a search in Saved, and you keep the post, not the recipe or address in it. Using both works fine: keep Saved for later, and share what you want to use to Recalo.
Tips for Facebook
- In a private group, copy the recipe text and paste it into Recalo instead of sharing the link.
- Planning with family? Share the note or checklist with them by link or email, to view or edit.

Good to know
What it can't read. Posts in private groups can't be read. A profile, page, album, Marketplace listing or event saves as a link.
iPhone and iPad. Sharing from Facebook works in the iPhone and iPad app. On Android or a computer, paste the link into the web app.
Free to start. Recalo is free to download. Importing uses AI, so regular use needs Recalo Pro, $3.49 a month or $34.99 a year. What you've saved stays yours to search either way.
